Trest’s free throws produce win for C-M
Cheyenne Trest made a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining to lift Canon-McMillan to a 51-49 non-section high school girls basketball win over visiting Mars Monday night.
Mars jumped out to a 17-10 lead after one quarter and led 37-32 entering the fourth quarter before the Big Macs closed the game on a 19-12 run.
Trest scored 21 points to lead the Big Macs (2-1), while Kamara Mathis had 17 points.
Lauren Wasylson had 15 points and Tia Johnson 14 for Mars, which fell to 2-1.
Carmichaels 37, Avella 30: Megan Walker and Kristina Aeschbacher had six points each in a 17-4 third-quarter run as Carmichaels erased a 16-10 halftime deficit to beat Avella, 37-30, in a non-section game.
Walker and Aeschbacher scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, to lead the Mikes (2-1).
Grace Lengauer had 10 points for Avella (1-2).
West Greene 64, McGuffey 24: Madison Lampe had 22 points and West Greene outscored McGuffey 16-2 in the first quarter on its way to a 64-24 non-section win.
Kaitlyn Rizor and McKenna Lampe added 15 points each for the Pioneers (2-0).
Emily Durila led McGuffey (0-3) with six points.
Charleroi 55, Uniontown 34: Maggie Albert’s 14 points helped Charleroi beat Uniontown, 55-34, in a non-section game.
Adrianna Gottheld added 13 points and Sierra Shorts had 12 for the Cougars (3-0).
Maya Murray and Kiera McCargo had 12 points each for Uniontown (0-3).
Kiski 61, Monessen 31: Hannah Porter scored 26 points to lead Kiski past Monessen, 61-31, in a non-section game.
Harley Holloway added 10 points for Kiski (2-1), which jumped out to an 11-1 lead after one quarter.
Natalia Holmes led Monessen (0-3) with 17 points.
Cameron 49, Mapletown 29: Courtney Walker and Kelsie Meintel each scored 16 points to lead Cameron (W.Va.) to a 49-29 win over Mapletown in a non-section game.
Hannah Dusenberry led Mapletown (1-2) with 12 points and Hannah Dingle chipped in with 10.
Chartiers-Houston 54, Avonworth 37: Alexa Williamson had a triple-double to send Chartiers-Houston past Avonworth, 54-37, in a non-section game.
Williamson scored 27 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and had 10 blocked shots for the Bucs (2-1). Jala Walker added 11 points.
Hunter Robinson led Avonworth (2-1) with 10 points.
Jefferson-Morgan 47, Waynesburg 9: Anna Mattish scored a game-high 17 points as Jefferson-Morgan knocked out Waynesburg 47-9 in a non-section game.
The Rockets moved to 2-1 and Waynesburg fell to 0-2.
