DeRubbo’s basket at buzzer wins it for Trinity

Riley DeRubbo went the length of the court after stealing the basketball and scored on a layup at the buzzer to give Trinity a thrilling 44-42 victory over Upper St. Clair in a non section game.

Trinity trailed by three points with 28 seconds to play when Alayna Cappelli was fouled and made a free throw to make it 42-40. Trinity fouled and USC missed the front end of a 1-and-1. DeRubbo hit a jump shot with 18 seconds to go that tied the game. USC got the ball underneath the Trinity basket, where DeRubbo made the steal.

DeRubbo finished with 13 points and was the only player from Trinity (4-0) in double figures.

Kristen Kartsonas and Samantha Smith each scored nine points for the Panthers.

Carrick 52, Monessen 40: Three players reach double figures in scoring to power Carrick to a 52-40 win over Monessen in a non-section game.

Kayla Cannon led the way with 16, followed by Cali Shealy with 11 and Sarah Ossman with 10 for Carrick (2-3).

Qitarah Hardison scored 17 points and pulled down 18 rebounds for Monessen (0-4). Kaylan Cannon added 16 points.

Carmichaels 45, Mapletown 26: Kaitlyn Wilson scored 13 points to help Carmichaels defeat Mapletown, 45-26, in a non-section game.

Natalie McNett chipped in with 10 points for the Mikes (3-2), who outscored the Maples, 26-13, in the second half.

Kayla Smith scored 10 points for Mapletown (1-3).

Chartiers Valley 63, Peters Township 59: Mackenzie Wagner scored 26 points to help Chartiers Valley hold off Peters Township, 63-59, in a non-section game.

Gabby Legister added 14 points and Megan McConnell had 12 for the Colts (3-1), who took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Isabella Mills had 18 points and Makenna Marisa scored 17 for the Indians (2-2).

Sewickley Academy 35, Avella 24: Held to 15 points through the first three quarters, Sewickley Academy exploded for 21 in the final eight minutes to beat Avella, 35-24, in a non-section game.

Kendall Lightcap and Olivia Ryder scored nine points each for Sewickley Academy (4-0).

Bailey Lis led Avella (1-3) with eight points.

Jefferson-Morgan 48, Bentworth 35: Anna Mattish scored 17 points as Jefferson-Morgan defeated Bentworth, 48-35, in a non-section game.

Jamie Lawrence added 13 points for the Rockets (3-2), who jumped out to a 16-6 lead after one quarter.

Grace Marchezak scored nine points to lead the Bearcats (0-4).
