Cal women win 11th straight, rout Bloomsburg
A 20-0 run before halftime propelled the California University women’s basketball team to an 80-45 victory at Bloomsburg in non-conference play.
The second-ranked Vulcans moved to 11-0 while Bloomsburg fell to 1-8 under first-year head coach Alison Tagliaferri, who spent the previous four seasons as head coach at Mansfield. The Vulcans have now won all but one of their games this season by at least 15 points, including five victories by over 30 points
Cal allowed Bloomsburg just two first-half field goals and the 20-0 run produced a 44-15 halftime lead.
Junior forward Seairra Barrett led Cal with 16 points after going 8 of 11 from the field. She also had five rebounds, two assists and three steals while playing only 20 minutes because of foul trouble. The reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Defensive Athlete of the Year, Barrett has led the team in scoring four times in her last eight games over the last month.
Senior Miki Glenn finished with 14 points, four rebounds, six assists and five steals. Junior Shatara Parsons also scored 15 points and added five rebounds and three steals.
Sophomore Abbey Sporio and freshman DJ Hahn each added eight points off the bench, while redshirt senior Brittany Nelson led the team with seven rebounds.
At various points, Cal led 28-4, 60-27 and 66-40.
Senior Morgan Klunk was the lone player for Bloomsburg to score in double-digits, finishing with 13 points.
Freshman Taylor Montana led the team with seven rebounds and also had four blocks.
