Girls basketball roundup: Strong 4th quarter wins for Ringgold
Ashley Briscoe scored 16 points and Ringgold held host Belle Vernon to only nine fourth-quarter points Tuesday night as the Rams pulled out a 53-48 victory in a non-section game.
Belle Vernon (4-2) led 29-28 at halftime and 39-38 after three quarters.
Taylor Costa scored 15 points to help Ringgold’s winning effort. She made all three of the Rams’ three-point field goals. Taylor Mendicino had 10 points. Ringgold’s record improved to 3-2.
Ashley Russell was Belle Vernon’s leading scorer with 12 points. Kelsey Green scored 10. The Leopards hurt their cause by making only seven of 16 free throws.
Bethel Park 59, Trinity 58: Bethel Park rallied in the second half to edge Trinity, 59-58, in a non-section game.
Madelyn Dziezgowski led three scorers in double figures with 14 points for Bethel Park, which trailed at halftime 32-28. Rebecca Rodriquez tossed in 13 and Maria Cerro 12.
Sierra Kotchman led the Hillers with 21 points. Riley DeRubbo had nine.
Beth-Center 46, Jefferson-Morgan 28: Kinlee Whited poured in 20 points as Beth-Center bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 46-28 home-court victory over Jefferson-Morgan in a non-section contest.
The win improves Beth-Center’s record to 3-1. The Bulldogs received 10 points from Mary Gustovich.
Clairton 66, Monessen 18: Nadia Davis and Rae’leen Clifford combined for 31 points and Clairton moved back to the .500 mark with a 66-18 victory over visiting Monessen in non-section play.
Davis scored 16 points to lead the Bears (3-3) and Clifford followed with 15 points. Cheyenne Galloway had 12 points and Catherine Payne 10 for Clairton, which led 39-8 at halftime.
Qitarah Hardison led Monessen (0-5) with nine points.
In girls action, Shaler edged Peters Township 40-35.
