Girls basketball roundup: Undefeated California rallies for win
Undefeated California made six three-point field goals and Grace Roberts converted a conventional three-point play late in the game to put the Trojans ahead for good as they edged host Brownsville 44-42 Wednesday night in a non-section contest.
The win improves Cal’s record to 5-0.
Bailey Vig led the Trojans with a game-high 15 points. She also led Cal on the boards with nine rebounds. Roberts finished with 12 points including her pivotal three-point play. California had to overcome a six-point deficit entering the fourth quarter but the Trojans outscored the Falcons 16-8 down the stretch.
Dominique Gaston had eight points and nine rebounds.
Brownsville (2-5) was led by Alley Seto’s 11 points.
Jeannette 63, Monessen 24: A 27-point performance from Jeannette’s Olivia Sirnic led the Jayhawks to a 63-24 victory over Monessen.
While Monessen (0-6) was paced by Qitariah Hardison’s 13 points, the Greyhounds failed to reach double digits in any of the four quarters.
