Prexies start fast, beat Steel Valley

Washington scored 38 points in the first half and held on for a 62-45 win over Steel Valley in a non-section high school boys basketball game Monday night in a WPIAL playoff tune-up for both teams.

Matt Popeck had 16 points, Nate Swart chipped in 13 and Markel Pulliam 11 for the Prexies (16-6), who led 38-24 at halftime and allowed just nine points in the fourth quarter.

Kennedy Smith had 13 points for the Ironmen (15-5), who won the Section 4-AAA title.

Trinity 58, Ringgold 37: Jaden Nelson and Dylan Kern combined for 27 points to help Trinity defeat Ringgold 58-37, in a non-section home game to prepare for the playoffs.

The Hillers (12-8), who finished third in Section 5-AAA, trailed after eight minutes before outscoring Ringgold 21-6 in the second quarter. Nelson had 15 points and Kern had 12 with four three-pointers. The Rams (8-13) scored just four fourth-quarter points.

Canon-McMillan 83, Southmoreland 75: Three players scored at least 20 points to lift Canon-McMillan to an 83-75 non-section home overtime win over Southmoreland.

Britton Beachy and RJ Bell both had 22 points and Carson Miller added 21 for the Big Macs (9-13), who made 19 of 21 free throws in the fourth quarter and overtime period. Miller tied the game with three free throws after he was fouled attempting a three-pointer with 0.8 seconds remaining in regulation. C-M made 11 three-pointers and ourscored Southmoreland 14-6 in overtime.

The Scotties (14-8), who qualified for the postseason in Section 3-AAA, were led by Brandon Stone’s 30 points.

Albert Gallatin 80, Chartiers-Houston 61: Tavian Mozie and Tanner Kutek both scored 20 points as Albert Gallatin defeated Chartiers-Houston 80-61 in a non-section game at home.

The Bucs (12-10), who are headed to the WPIAL playoffs as the fourth-place team in Section 3-AA, were led by AJ Myers’ 26 points and Cam Hanley added 19. Albert Gallatin (9-13) outscored C-H 18-8 in the third quarter and made 12 three-pointers.

Chartiers Valley 77, South Fayette 53: Four players scored in double figures to help Chartiers Valley defeat South Fayette 77-53 in a tune up for two playoff-bound teams.

Eddie Flohr had 21 points, Ross Wilkerson 17, Caleb Zavicek 13 and Joey Antonucci 11 for the Colts (18-4), who scored 28 second-quarter points.

Matt Thomas had 15 points for the Lions (12-9).

McGuffey 63, Fort Cherry 49: Shaun Sanders scored 22 point as McGuffey snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 63-49 non-section win over Fort Cherry.

Colin Chapman added 14 points and 14 rebounds for McGuffey (6-16).

Rob McAnany led Fort Cherry (3-19) with 20 points.
