Dayton beats Duquesne 66-58 in A-10 opener

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Charles Cooke scored 21 points and Dayton beat Duquesne, 66-58, Saturday in an Atlantic 10 opener.
Dayton (11-2) survived a poor shooting day to top the Dukes. Neither team shot more than 37 percent from the floor, and they combined to go 5 of 37 from beyond the arc.
Derrick Colter scored 14 points – despite going 2 of 12 from the floor -and Darius Lewis added 12 for Duquesne (10-4), which outrebounded the Flyers 44-37, but had 18 turnovers.
Lewis hit a jumper and Colter made a pair at the line to draw the Dukes within four with 38 seconds left. They were forced to foul, though, and Dayton’s Kyle Davis made 3 of 4 free throws and Cooke made 1 of 2 to ice it.
Darrell Davis’ 3-pointer with 25 seconds left in the first half gave Dayton a 25-20 lead at the break.
