CLEVELAND – Running back DeAngelo Williams suffered a right ankle injury early in the second quarter of the Steelers’ game Sunday at Cleveland.
Williams, who came into the game with 899 yards, was tackled at the end of a run and had his ankle caught underneath him by defensive lineman John Hughes. He was helped off the field and onto a cart, which immediately took him to the locker room.
He returned to the sidelines a little later, but was ruled out for the remainder of the game at halftime.
Williams, who had five carries for eight yards before the injury, entered the weekend leading the AFC in rushing touchdowns with 11.
He has started 10 games for the Steelers this season in place of injured Pro Bowl running back Le’Veon Bell.
Williams was replaced in the game, which the Steelers led at the time, 7-3, by Fitzgerald Toussaint.
