Last-bout pin gives Waynesburg 22-21 wrestling win over W&J

Beth-Center High School graduate Zach Swarrow’s pin at 133 pounds – the final bout of the match – gave Waynesburg a 22-21 Presidents’ Athletic Conference wrestling victory over Washington & Jefferson Thursday night at Henry Memorial Center.
Waynesburg (1-0, 6-7) trailed 21-16 entering the final bout after Jacob Spearman won a decision at 125 pounds for W&J (0-1, 0-6).
But Swarrow’s fall in 3:50 lifted the Yellow Jackets to victory.
The match started at 141 pounds, where Waynesburg’s Filippo Crivelli picked up a win by forfeit. Back-to-back victories by the Presidents put them ahead 9-6 after three bouts.
Waynesburg’s Landon Lohr put his team back in the lead with a 12-2 major decision at 165. Momentum swung back to W&J with a win at 174, before Waynesburg’s Ryan Shank made the score 13-12 with an 11-6 victory at 184.
A pin by W&J at 197 pounds gave it a five-point edge (18-13), but a decision win at heavyweight cut the Yellow Jackets’ deficit to two points. The Presidents took their final lead after a decision at 125 pounds to set up Swarrow’s heroics.
Trevor Meyers and Ezekiel Stroupe each a pins to account for 12 points by W&J.
