Pulliam, Wash High sink Seton-La Salle in overtime

Senior guard Markel Pulliam had 13 of Washington’s 15 points in overtime Friday night to send the Prexies to a 73-66 Section 3-AA win in Dormont.

Nate Swart, who had 13 points, made a layup to cut the Prexies’ deficit to two points with six second remaining in regulation and Pulliam quickly got a steal before being fouled. He made both shots to send the game into overtime and had 25 of his game-high 32 points after the first half, which ended with Wash High (7-1, 9-5) trailing by six points. Matt Popeck added 17 points for the Prexies, who secured second place in the section and are just one game back of first-place Bishop Canevin.

Seton-La Salle (5-3, 6-8), which scored just eight points in overtime and made eight three-pointers, was led by Cletus Helton’s 26 points.

South Park 41, South Fayette 39: Steven Ennis made a driving floater with 2.6 seconds remaining to cap a fourth-quarter comeback by South Park and stun host South Fayette, 41-39, in Section 5-AAA.

The loss knocked South Fayette (5-2, 7-3) out of first place in the section and boosted the playoff chances of South Park (4-3, 5-8).

Despite a cold shooting night, South Fayette led 9-4 after one quarter, 18-15 at halftime and 29-27 after three quarters.

Ennis scored a game-high 21 points and had half of the Eagles’ field goals.

Ryhan Culberson was the leading scorer for South Fayette with nine points.

Trinity 65, Keystone Oaks 63: Adam Raggi made two free throws with 3.4 seconds remaining to help Trinity complete a come-from-behind 65-63 Section 5-AAA win over Keystone Oaks on the road.

The Hillers (5-2, 7-6) trailed by as many as 15 points in the second quarter. A full-court press held the Golden Eagles (1-6, 4-10) to seven third-quarter points and Trinity sophomore guard Joey Koroly’s putback with 28 seconds left in regulation tied the score 63-63.

After a defensive stop, Raggi was fouled to set up a one-and-one, and the junior sealed the win at the line. Koroly had a team-high 18 points, including 13 in the second half, and Robert Nelson had 12.

Jake Morgan had 23 points for Keystone Oaks.

California 66, Jefferson-Morgan 34: Kass Taylor had a double-double to pace California in a 66-34 win over Jefferson-Morgan in a Section 3-A game on the road.

Taylor had 23 points and 12 rebounds to record his fourth double-double of the season for the Trojans (6-1, 9-4), who scored 50 first-half points and allowed just third points in the third quarter.

Gage Clark had 21 points, including five three-pointers, for the Rockets (3-4, 4-11) and D.L. Garrett had 10 points.

Charleroi 82, Beth-Center 69: Sam Miceli scored a game-high 31 points to help Charleroi defeat Beth-Center, 82-69, in a Section 4-AA game.

Brock Shannon had 19 points and John Arnold 14 for the Cougars (6-1, 11-3). Luke Hess had a game-high 23 points for the Bulldogs (2-4, 5-5). Bradey McDonnell and JJ Green added 13 points for Beth-Center.

Brownsville 90, Waynesburg 83: Noah Brown and Shandon Marshall combined for 51 points to lead Brownsville over Waynesburg, 90-83, in a Section 4-AA game.

Brown had 26 points and Marshall 25 for the Falcons (7-0, 11-3), who led by just three points with under four minutes to play before pulling away for the win. Brownsville led by just four points at halftime, but outscored the Raiders by 10 points in the third quarter.

Darton McIntire and Mitch Warman both scored 31 points for Waynesburg (3-4, 6-7).

West Allegheny 60, McGuffey 39: Isaiah and Alijah Crowe combined for 34 points to help West Allegheny defeat McGuffey, 60-39, in a Section 5-AAA game in Claysville.

Isaiah Crowe had 22 points and Alijah 12 for the Indians (6-1, 7-8), who led by seven points at halftime before pulling away with a 17-point third quarter. Shaun Sanders had 16 points for McGuffey (0-7, 5-10), which has lost seven consecutive games.

Brentwood 55, Fort Cherry 38: Dorian Bowie scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in a 34-points second half for Brentwood to help the Spartans defeat Fort Cherry, 55-38, in a Section 3-AA game. Brentwood (3-5, 5-9) trailed by one point at halftime before outscoring the Rangers 34-16 in the second half.

Michael Coyne had 11 points for Fort Cherry (0-7, 2-12).

Bishop Canevin 74, Chartiers-Houston 39: Behind Kellan Gustine’s 17 points, Bishop Canevin scored 50 first-half points to defeat Chartiers-Houston 74-39 in a Section 3-AA game.

Justin Dix and Julian Bonds both had 10 points for the Crusaders (8-0, 11-3), who allowed just 13 first-half points and had nine players score at least five points. AJ Myers had 15 points for the Bucs (2-5, 8-6).

Burgettstown 65, Carlynton 47: Sophomore Jarred John scored a season-high 21 points and Burgettstown gave a hit to Carlynton’s playoff hopes with a 65-47 victory on the Cougars’ home court.

Burgettstown (2-6, 5-11) had a fast start and a strong finish. The Blue Devils led 23-10 after one quarter, and after Carlynton (4-4, 8-6) pulled to within 41-31 after three quarters, Burgettstown scored 24 points over the final eight minutes.

Max Shaw scored 12 points and Brad McLaughlin had 11 for the Blue Devils.

Manny Burton led Carlynton with 18 points.

West Greene 61, Geibel Catholic 40: Juniors Craig Weaver and Kolton Rush each scored 18 points and West Greene cruised to a 61-40 road win over Geibel Catholic in Section 3-A.

Weaver and Rush helped West Greene (4-21, 7-6) moved into a third-place tie in the section with Avella and move above the .500 mark overall.

Nathan Brudnock scored 13 points for West Greene, which led 21-8 after one quarter and 52-22 after three quarters.

Kyle Toth scored 14 points for Geibel (1-6, 2-10), which has lost seven in a row.

Baldwin 61, Peters Township 57: Anthony Starzinsky scored 24 points and Baldwin held off visiting Peters Township 61-57 in a game between two of the top three teams in Section 4-AAAA.

Alex Richards added 12 points to the cause for Baldwin (6-2, 11-3), which moved a game ahead of PT (5-3, 10-4).

Nick Valentic’s 22 points paced the Indians and Ben Doyle had 11.

Upper St. Clair 59, Canon-McMillan 46: Upper St. Clair overcame a slow start and defeated visiting Canon-McMillan 59-46 in Section 4-AAA.

USC trailed 10-7 after one quarter but regrouped and outscored C-M 19-7 in the second quarter to take a 26-17 lead into halftime. The Panthers proected the lead by making eight three-pointers and 17 of 20 free throws.

Adam Wheeler scored 17 points to pace the Panthers and Jack Hansberry had 16.

Britton Beachy was the only player in double figures for C-M (1-7, 6-9) with 12 points.

Frazier 71, Bentworth 60: Brothers Caleb and Josh Cox combined for 43 points to power Frazier to a 71-60 victory over host Bentworth in Section 4-AA.

Caleb Cox scored a game-high 28 points and made four of Frazier’s seven three-pointers. Josh Cox scored 15 points and Damon Lovis had 18 points for the Commodores (3-4, 8-7). Frazier had to overcome a halftime deficit as Bentworth (0-6, 3-10) led 32-30 at the break.

Levi Jordan had another double-double for Bentworth with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Steve Harner had 16 points.
