Carmichaels uses long-range shots in win

Carmichaels allowed just 13 points in the middle quarters and used a 27-point second half to defeat Avella, 51-43, in a non-section game at home.

Liam Shea had a game-high 16 point sfor the Mikes (8-6), who made nine three-pointers and were 14 of 16 at the free throw line. Cody Dobbin led the Eagles (5-9) with 13 points, while Steven Miller and Shawn Willard both added 10.

Burgettstown 36, Waynesburg 30: Kate Tarr scored a game-high 12 points and Burgettstown held on for a 36-30 win over Waynesburg in a non-section game.

Kacie Prasko added nine points for the Blue Devils (8-7), who led 24-9 at halftime and held off Waynesburg’s 15-point fourth quarter rally to snap a five-game losing streak.

The Raiders (5-8) got 11 points from Kirsen Garber and Celine Monica.

McKeesport 70, Belle Vernon 55: McKeesport led by 24 points at halftime and held on for a 70-55 win over Belle Vernon in a Section 4-AAA game at home.

Johnasia Cash had a game-high 24 points and Moniah Robinson 16 for the Tigers (6-2, 10-4), who made 16 of 22 free throws and 70 points is a season-high.

Ashley Russell led the Leopards (1-6, 5-10) with 19 points and Caitlyn Trombley added 12.

Serra 36, California 34: California’s fourth-quarter comeback fell two points shy as the Trojans lost at Serra Catholic 36-34 in a non-section game.

California (9-6) had a cold-shooting first half and trailed 18-8 at halftime. The Trojans cut the gap to 26-18 after three quarters and then outscored the Eagles 16-10 over the final eight minutes.

Cal’s Bailey Vig led all scorers with 11 points that included three three-pointers. Lauren Minor led Serra (11-3) with nine points.
