Boys basketball: Avella completes 21-point comeback

Cody Dobbin’s layup as time expired gave Avella a 55-53, come-from-behind victory over Western Beaver in a non-section game at home.
The Eagles (6-9) trailed by 21 points at halftime before scoring 55 in the final 16 minutes. Shawn Willard had 18 of his game-high 22 points in the second half and Dobbin, who made a three-pointer to tie the score with less than a minute remaining, had 11 of his 13 during that span.
Louie Hapach had 21 points for the Golden Beavers (2-10).
South Fayette 55, Bishop Canevin 54: Ryhan Culberson made a layup with 12.6 seconds remaining to send South Fayette to a 55-54 win over Bishop Canevin in a non-section game.
After the Lions grabbed the lead, Bishop Canevin’s Mitchell King got the ball on a swing, but his shot was blocked by Sidney Pinnix to clinch the win.
Culberson had a game-high 21 points with 13 rebounds for the Lions (8-6), who led by eight points and also got 14 points from Matt Thomas.
King had 18 points for the Crusaders (11-4).
Elizabeth Forward 65, Belle Vernon 61: Elizabeth Forward had four players score in double figures and scored 12 points in overtime to defeat Belle Vernon, 65-61, in a Section 4-AAA game.
Will Sorton and Trey Mitchell had 17 points for the Warriors (4-4, 6-10), who have won three straight. Brennan Morgan had 14 points for the Leopards (2-6, 4-9).
