HS basketball: Cooper helps Ringgold sink TJ

Ringgold senior guard Bailey Cooper sank four free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Rams defeat Thomas Jefferson, 51-48, in a Section 4-AAA girls basketball game Monday night in Monongahela.

The Rams (7-1, 10-5), who remain second in the section, led by 10 points on three occasions, but each time, the Jaguars fought back. Cooper made two free throws in the final minutes to put the game out of reach. Ringgold sophomore forward Ashley Briscoe added 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Rams.

Marina Petruzzi had 17 points for Thomas Jefferson (1-7, 3-12).

Trinity 54, Chartiers Valley 33: Sierra Kotchman and Mary Dunn combined for 42 points to help Trinity defeat Chartiers Valley, 54-33, in a Section 5-AAA game.

Kotchman had a game-high 23 points, including five three-pointers, and Dunn added 19 for the Hillers (7-1, 13-2), who led by 16 points at halftime scored 28 points in the second half.

Lauren Wagner had 10 points for the Colts (4-4, 8-8).

Washington 61, Carmichaels 17: Tajah Gordon scored a game-high 18 points as Washington defeated Carmichaels 61-17 in a Section 4-AA game.

The Prexies (7-1, 12-4) scored 47 points in the first half and allowed just five in the second. Torri Finley 11 points for Wash High and the Mikes (1-6, 4-12) got seven points from Kaitlyn Wilson.

Montour 57, McGuffey 15: Montour led by 21 points at halftime on its way to a 57-15 win over McGuffey in a Section 5-AAA game at home.

Courtney Tomas had a game-high 14 points, while Kennedi Stevenson and Rosina Esposito both had 10 points for the Spartans (3-4, 7-9).

The Highlanders (0-8, 1-14) had just eight points in the first half.

Waynesburg 49, Bentworth 33: Celine Monica and Kirsten Garber combined for 38 points to help Waynesburg defeat Bentworth, 49-33, in a Section 4-AA game at home.

The Raiders (4-4, 6-8) led by seven points at halftime, despite scoring just five in the second quarter, and made 21 of 28 free throws. Heather Chester had 20 points for the Bearcats (0-8, 2-13)

Burgettstown 60, Wilkinsburg 17: Elle Havelka had a game-high 13 points to help Burgettstown defeat Wilkinsburg, 60-17, in a Section 3-AA game at home.

Kate Tarr added 10 points for the Blue Devils (2-6, 9-7), who allowed just four first-half points and made 17 of 18 free throws.

The Tigers (0-7, 0-15) were 1 of 12 from the free throw line.

Canon-McMillan 65, West Allegheny 35: Three players scored in double figures to help Canon-McMillan breeze past West Allegheny in a Section 4-AAAA game.

Becca Turney scored 19 points, Izzy Allen 15 and Cheyenne Trest 13 for the Big Macs (7-2, 10-5).

Grace Faulk’s 10 points led West Allegheny (1-8, 7-9). The two teams combined to make 32 of 38 free throw attempts.

West Greene 67, Mapletown 24: McKenna Lampe scored a game-high 29 points to power West Greene to a 67-24 win over Mapletown in a Section 3-A game.

Savannah Pettit tossed in 11 points for the Pioneers (7-2, 13-3), who led 37-13 at halftime.

Kayla Smith had six points and 13 rebounds for the Maples (2-6, 3-12).

Geibel 42, Monessen 34: Geibel shut out Monessen in the third quarter on the way to a 42-34 victory in Section 3-A.

Gillian Yourish led Geibel (3-6, 5-10) with 15 points. Grace Nowicki added 14.

Lashaundria Gillaspie scored 12 points and Natalie Holmes 10 for the Greyhounds (0-9, 2-14).

California 70, Avella 24: Six players scored in double figures to pace California to a 70-24 win over Avella in a Section 3-A game.

Jenna Miller led the way for Cal (8-1, 10-6) with 15 points. Grace Roberts chipped in 13 points, and Love Porter, Bailey Vig, Destiny Gudel and Dominique Gaston each scored 10 points.

Samantha Dunkle scored six point for Avella (4-5, 6-8), which was outscored 44-11 over the middle two quarters.

Jefferson-Morgan 52, Fort Cherry 29: Kayla Yorko and Nikki Venick combined for 23 points in Jefferson-Morgan’s 52-29 victory over Fort Cherry in a Section 3-A game.

Yorko led the way with 12 points and Venick added 11 for the Rockets (9-0, 14-1).

Shannon Relihan poured in 12 points for the Rangers (3-6, 4-11). Hannah Greene chipped in with 11.

South Park 65, Belle Vernon 42: Natalie Clydesdale scored a game-high 18 points to help South Park stop Belle Vernon 65-42 in a Section 4-AAA game.

Allison McGrath poured in 17 points and Brittany Andrews 10 for the Eagles (7-0, 12-2).

Kelsey Green had 15 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals for BV (1-7, 5-11), which trailed 37-20 at halftime.
