Ritchie makes big shot for Waynesburg

B.J. Durham scored a game-high 29 points and D.J. Ritchie made a go-ahead three-pointer with two seconds left in overtime as Waynesburg upset Thomas More, 83-80, in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Friday afternoon at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
The game was moved up from this afternoon because of the predicted snowstorm.
Waynesburg (5-5, 5-12) trailed 80-78 after a jump shot by Daniel Williams gave Thomas More (7-3, 10-7) the lead with 22 seconds left in overtime. The Yellow Jackets, however, scored five points in the final two seconds to win the game.
Ritchie, a senior forward who scored 13 points, made his third three-pointer, this one from the top of the key, with two seconds remaining to put Waynesburg in the lead, 81-80. Thomas More, which is in second place in the PAC, was then called for a foul with a second left, and Durham sank two free throws to give the Yellow Jackets a three-point edge.
Durham made six of 14 three-point shots and all five of his free-throws. Jon Knab scored 13 points for Waynesburg, which has won three in a row and climbed to fifth place and .500 in the conference.
Waynesburg led 69-64 with three minutes left in regulation before Thomas More rallied. Damion King made one of the Saints’ 13 three-pointers and Daniel Williams converted five free throws to give Thomas More a 72-69 lead with 57 seconds to play. Waynesburg’s Dylan O’Hara forced overtime at 72-72 when he converted a three-play with 36 seconds remaining.
Williams missed two free throws with 16 seconds left that would have given Thomas More the lead and Waynesburg missed two shots in the final four seconds of regulation.
Williams led Thomas More with 20 points, including a basket that gave the Saints an 80-78 lead in overtime. Sawyer Pauly had 16 points and King 14.
The teams combined to make 25 three-point shots.
