Honors roll in for West Greene players
The Pennsylvania High School Softball Association has recognized six area standouts for their play on the diamond this spring.
A trio of West Greene Pioneers, pitcher Madison Renner, third baseman Madison Lampe and center fielder McKenna Lampe, made the Class A first team.
Renner, the Observer-Reporter Player of the Year, led Pennsylvania in both home runs (nine) and RBI (66), according to MaxPreps. She displayed discipline along with that power, striking out just once in 92 plate appearances. In the circle, Renner was 19-2 with 118 strikeouts over 134 innings.
Both Lampes earned all-rookie team (freshmen only, all classifications combined) honors, too. McKenna Lampe batted at the top of the order, ending the year with a .618 average with 33 stolen bases. She also had 24 RBI and 57 runs.
Madison Lampe hit in the No. 2 spot and batted .473, scoring 52 runs and stealing 13 bases.
Trinity first baseman Delaney Elling was named to the Class AAA first team. The senior, who will play at Penn State next year, is the only Class AAA first team selection from the area. She finished the season with a team-high .484 batting average with 18 RBI.
Bailey Parshall of Belle Vernon received a flex spot on the Class AAA second team. The left-handed pitcher led the WPIAL in strikeouts with 213. She finished her sophomore season with a 12-5 record.
McGuffey’s Moriah McGuier is the sole area representative in Class AA. The senior pitcher landed on the second team after going 14-2. Her win total ranked second-best among Class AA pitchers in the WPIAL. She also had 104 strikeouts.
