Racers’ Fagan does it again, sends Rebellion to defeat
The Pennsylvania Rebellion players will be happy to see Sami Fagan go play somewhere else.
For the second time in as many games, Fagan, the shortstop for the Akron Racers, homered in the seventh inning to send the Rebellion to defeat.
In Thursday night’s game, played at Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md., Fagan cracked a two-run blast in the top of the seventh to help the Racers to a 4-2 victory in a National Pro Fastpitch softball league game.
On Wednesday night, Fagan hit a solo home run, again in the top of the seventh, to give Akron a 5-4 victory over the last-place Rebellion, who have lost four in a row and saw their record drop to 11-21.
The game was a home game for the Rebellion but played at a neutral site in Salisbury. The two games in Salisbury drew a combined 5,030 fans.
The Rebellion entered the seventh inning tied 1-1 but Emily Weiman, in relief of Haylie Wagner, walked Kelley Montalvo to start the inning, then surrendered Fagan’s two-run home run over the right-center field fence to make it 3-1. Alex Hugo followed with a solo home run to left field to make it 4-1.
The Rebellion cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Chaley Brickey single that scored Mandy Ogle, and even loaded the bases with one out. Rachele Fico replaced Jailyn Ford and got Whitney Arion to pop up in the infield and Cheyenne Cordes to fly out to left to end the game.
Akron took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Shellie Robinson and the Rebellion tied it, 1-1, in the fourth when Kristyn Sandberg hit a solo home run to left field, her fourth of the season.
