W&J hires Wyckoff for water polo program
Washington & Jefferson has hired Cassie Wyckoff as head coach of the men’s and women’s water polo programs.
Wyckoff arrives after serving a season on the women’s coaching staff at Stanford, helping the Cardinal reach the NCAA championship match, which ended in an 8-7 loss to Southern California.
“It is an honor and privilege to be a part of the Washington & Jefferson College athletic community,” said Wyckoff. “I look forward to being an instrument among an orchestra of many quality members and I’m beyond excited to get started.”
A two-time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-American at Indiana, Wyckoff finished her career as the top goalkeeper in Hoosier history with more than 1,100 saves.
“Cassie brings energy and passion for the sport of water polo to the W&J campus,” said W&J Director of Athletics Scott McGuinness. “She has played the sport at the highest levels and is eager to now make her mark as a coach. We are thrilled to have Cassie as our head water polo coach.”
During the 2011 season, Wyckoff set a then-school record with 348 saves, which she topped the follow year when she blocked 356 shots during her senior season. As a senior, she helped lead Indiana to its second Collegiate Water Polo Association title and second NCAA championship appearance.
Twice during her time at IU she was named to the All-Eastern Championship First Team (2010, 2011), including tournament Most Valuable Player in 2011. She also earned a spot on the CWPA All-Division Teams in 2010 and 2012.
Wyckoff traveled with Stanford to the 2015 World University Games in Gwanhju, South Korea and earned a silver medal with Team USA at the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China.
After college, Wyckoff moved onto the professional ranks, competing for three seasons in Dunaujvaros, Hungary and another in Eger, Hungary. Currently, she plays for the New York Athletic Club, having won gold at the US Open of Water Polo in 2012 and 2013 (MVP) and bronze in 2015.
