MARION, Ill. – Steve Marino hit a three-run homer in a four-run fifth inning to lead Southern Illinois to a 6-5 win over the Wild Things in a Frontier League game Saturday night at Rent One Park.

Marino’s homer, his 13th of the season, helped break a 2-2 tie and helped West Division-leading Southern Illinois (42-17) to its seventh consecutive win.

The home run helped make a winner of Brooks Trujilo. Trujilo allowed four runs, three earned, in 6 2/3 innings. Adam Lopez picked up the save despite loading the bases in the ninth inning.

David Popkins and Logan Uxa both homered for the Wild Things (29-28), with Uxa driving in three runs and Popkins plating two.

Sam Agnew-Wieland took the loss, giving up all six runs in five innings, allowing six hits and walking five.
