AVON, Ohio – Trevor Foss pitched a six-hitter and Nick Ferdinand drove in three runs as the Wild Things defeated the Lake Erie Crushers, 5-1, in the opener of a three-game series.

Foss (4-2) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk while throwing his fourth consecutive complete game. Foss has allowed only one run in his last 19 innings.

Washington scored the game’s first five runs. Ferdinand, who signed Thursday with the Wild Things, had a run-scoring single in the second inning for the game’s initial run. The lead grew to 3-0 in the third when Logan Uxa, who had three hits, drove in two runs with a single.

Ferdinand made it 5-0 with a two-run single in the fifth, scoring Uxa and Ricky Rodriguez, who also had three hits.

Lake Erie’s lone run came on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
