Wild Things complete sweep of Crushers
AVON, Ohio – Grant Fink’s three-run homer capped a six-run inning Sunday and sent the Wild Things to a 7-3 victory over the Lake Erie Crushers, completing a three-game series sweep for Washington.
The Wild Things, who moved into second place in the Frontier League’s East Division, were locked in a scoreless tie until the big sixth inning, which made a winner of starting pitcher Sam Agnew-Wieland (1-0), who was making his first start of the season.
Washington used two hits batsmen, a walk and Nick Ferdinand’s two-run double to take a 2-0 lead in the sixth. Jimmy Yezzo had a run-scoring hit and Fink capped the big inning with his third home run of the season.
The Wild Things were able to overcome two home runs by Lake Erie center fielder Connor Oliver.
Yezzo hit a solo homer, his third of the season, in the seventh inning for the Wild Things’ final run.
Agnew-Wieland gave up five hits in 5 1/3 innings. Relievers Brian O’Keefe, Andrew Woeck and Kolin Stanley followed Agnew-Wieland on the mound.
The Wild Things being a three-game series against the Joliet Slammers Tuesday night at Consol Energy Park.
