Softball: Two big innings carry Trinity to victory

Trinity’s offense was in midseason form for its season-opener Thursday as the Hillers had 13 hits in a 12-6 victory over visiting Chartiers Valley.

Trinity trailed 4-2 before taking control with a five-run fifth inning. The Hillers added four more runs in the fifth.

Santana King, Mary Fritz and Kim Dunst led the Trinity lineup. King went 3-for-4 with a double, Fritz belted a two-run homer and Kim Dunst had three RBI.

Paige Gallentine was the winning pitcher. Losing pitcher Sammi Colluve had four hits and Amanda Gross doubled for CV.

Mt. Pleasant 1, Belle Vernon 0: Nikki Klejka had two of Mt. Pleasant’s three hits, including an RBI-single in the fourth inning, and Meadow Uncapher pitched a two-hit shutout as Mt. Pleasant defeated defending Class AAA champion Belle Vernon 1-0 in a non-section game.

Uncapher allowed only two singles and walked just one batter. She struck out 12 in a pitcher’s duel with Bailey Parshall of Belle Vernon. Parshall allowed three singles and one walk. She struck out 11.

Charleroi 7, Monessen 6: Kaitlyn McCann drove in three runs and Charleroi pulled out a 7-6 victory at Monessen.

McCann , along with Adrianna Gottheld, Morgan Riley and winning pitcher Ashley Smith, each had two hits for Charleroi. Morgan Riley had a double.

Monessen’s Shelby Mindari had a strong start to the season by going 3-for-4 with a home run and a double. Maddie Guzzie also doubled for the Greyhounds.

West Greene 16, California 0: Madison Renner allowed a leadoff single in the first inning but sat down the next nine batters in order as West Greene defeated California, 16-0, in a three-inning non-section game.

Renner had a double among three hits and drove in four runs, while Kaitlyn Rizor doubled, tripled and drove in four while scoring three times. Madison Lampe also had three hits and scored three times for the Pioneers (1-0).

Maddie Boda had the lone hit for California (0-1), while Bre Trusler was the losing pitcher.

South Fayette 7, West Bettford 0: Sara Jubas had three hits, including a double, to help South Fayette to a 7-0 victory over West Bettford in a game played in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Courtney Blocher had two hits and two RBI . Bailey Kormick allowed four hits and struck out three.

Bethel Park 10, South Fayette 2: Bethel Park scored four runs in the third and three more in the fourth to rout South Fayette, 10-2, in a game played in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Bethel Park had 11 hits. Sara Jubas had a solo home run for the Lions.
