Baseball: California moves to 2-0
Casey Zajicek went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI Monday as California remained unbeaten with an 8-4 win over vsiting Uniontown in a non-section game.
Winning pitcher Louden Conte won his second game of the season for Cal (2-0), striking out five. He combined with reliever Brandon Powell to scatter nine hits.
• Shaler took advantage of five Canon-McMillan errors and had a pair of four-run innings en route to a 9-2 non-section victory over the Big Macs at Consol Energy Park.
Three Shaler pitchers combined on a four-hitter and the Titans (2-0) had four extra-base hits.
Brooks Rikeman had two of Canon-McMillan’s four hits and its lone extra-base hit, a double.
The Big Macs are 1-1.
• Winning pitcher Ben Visnesky drove in three runs as Serra Catholic defeated visiting Chartiers-Houston 10-2 in a non-section contest.
The game started well for C-H (1-1) as the Bucs loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first inning and eventually scored two runs. Serra (1-0), however, battled back and took the lead with a three-run third and scored four more runs in the fourth.
Jordan Davis and Tyrone Wormsley each had two hits for Chartiers-Houston.
