Clark strikes out 11 in Jeff-Morgan win
Junior Gage Clark struck out 11 and allowed only three hits to help Jefferson-Morgan defeat Monessen 5-1 in a non-section game at home.
Clark needed only 77 pitches in the complete game and only walked one for the Rockets (1-0). Isaac Dean had two RBI and David Blaker hit an RBI double for J-M. Noah Baker took the loss, but had eight strikeouts for Monessen (0-1).
West Greene 6, Avella 3: Kyler Amos hit a two-run single in a three-run seventh inning to lift West Greene past Avella, 6-3, in a non-section game.
Mike Howard and Tyler Baker had doubles for West Greene (1-1), while Devon Jameson earned the win.
Tyler Fraysier doubled, while Cody Dobbin too the loss for Avella (0-1).
Burgettstown 15, Mapletown 3: Burgettstown exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to put away Mapletown, 15-3, in a five-inning non-section game.
Brandon Sell nine batters in three innings for the Blue Devils (1-1). Alex Takacs doubled twice and drove in three runs, while Scott Ferris also doubled for Burgettstown.
Brian Bogden took the loss, while Pat Clites and Dylan Rush both scored a run and drove in one each for Mapletown (0-1).
Thomas Jefferson 3, Trinity 1:
Thomas Jefferson took advantage of two errors and Trinity stranded nine runners on base as the Jaguars defeated the Hillers 3-1 in a non-section game at Consol Energy Park.
Luke Galioto and Ian Logue both had RBI for the Jaguars (2-2), who scored two runs in the third. Trinity (0-1) got one run in the bottom of the third when Tyler Denman scored on a passed ball.
Charleroi 7, Bentworth 4: Winning pitcher Sam Pager had a double and Charleroi took advantage of five Bentworth errors in a 7-4 non-section win over the Bearcats.
Cole Perry also doubled for Charleroi (1-1).
Taylor Bunner took the loss for Bentworth (0-1).
Fort Cherry 10, Cornell 0:
Cole Clark drove in two runs and Hunter Douglas struck out three as Fort Cherry defeated Cornell 10-0 in a five-inning non-section game on the road.
Clark struck out the side in the fifth inning to secure the win for Fort Cherry (1-0). Derrick Dillard took the loss for Cornell (0-2), which only had one hit.
