Softball: Belle Vernon’s offense breaks out
Belle Vernon’s dormant offense finally broke out in a big way Wednesday.
The Leopards, who were shut out in their first two games of the season, had 15 hits Wednesday and rolled to a 14-0 victory over host Laurel Highlands in a five-inning non-section game.
It was the second win in a row for Belle Vernon (2-2), which produced five extra-base hits.
Winning pitcher Bailey Parshall threw a one-hitter, striking 12. She did not issue a walk. Parshall also produced at the plate with a single, double and RBI.
Lexie Church tripled and drove in two runs, and Alyssa Larson, Erica Amoroso and Katelin Legazza each had a double for the leopards. Larson and Amoroso both drove in two runs.
Jenna Blis shad a single for the only hit by LH (0-2).
Monessen 5, Jefferson-Morgan 4:
Monessen scored a run in the top of the eighth and made it stand for a 5-4 cixtory over Jefferson-Mogan in a non-section game.
Dana Vitakis struck out five and did not walk a batter and Abby Simpson drove in two runs for the Greyhounds (2-1). Brooke Diamond had two doubles and three RBI for the Rockets (0-1).
