Baseball: Canon-Mac hangs 10 in first inning, rolls to win
Ian Hess went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and four RBI, and Canon-McMillan scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning, to defeat South Fayette 18-5 in a five-inning non-section game.
The Big Macs (2-1) scored 17 runs over the first three innings and finished the game with 18 hits.
Matt Mish had a two-run double in C-M’s big first inning and Casey Coleman had the big hit, a three-run double. Coleman was 2-for-2 with three runs and four RBI.
Before the first inning ended, Hess delivered a two-run single.
Tanner Piechnick and Nick Serafino each had a double for the Big Macs. Four C-M pitchers, which included starter Zack Rohaley, combined on a seven-hitter. South Fayette scored five runs in the third inning. The Lions’ Ryan Kokoski had a double.
Jefferson-Morgan 8, Avella 4: Isaac Dean had two hits and drove in three runs to send Jefferson-Morgan to an 8-4 victory over Avella in a non-section game.
Joe Headlee had two hits and two RBI for the Rockets (2-0) and Gage Clark added two singles. Winning pitcher Jake Bissett struck out six.
Luke Lloyd went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run for Avella (0-2).
West Allegheny 15, Fort Cherry 4: Tyler Anderson doubled and tripled as West Allegheny defeated Fort Cherry 15-4 in a five-inning non-section game.
Logan Malatak had two hits and three RBI, and Jordan Lanni and Nick Ross each doubled for West Allegheny (3-0). Christian Milletary was the winning pitcher.
Anthony Kampian and Hunter Douglass each doubled for Fort Cherry (1-1).
