Baseball: Douglas, Fort Cherry baffle Bentworth

Hunter Douglas threw a three-hitter Tuesday as Fort Cherry topped Bentworth, 6-1, in a non-section game.

Austin Wood had a double and three RBI, while Nate Higham also doubled for Fort Cherry (9-11).

Rob Schultz doubled, while Riley Nickeson took the loss despite allowing just four hits for Bentworth (10-6).

Plum 7, Canon-McMillan 5: Alex Kiriloff had a home run and double as Plum finished off an unbeaten regular season with a 7-5 non-section win over Canon-McMillan Tuesday.

Alex Terrell had three hits, including two doubles, for Plum (19-0).

Ian Hess had three hits, including two doubles, while Tanner Piechnick had a double for Canon-McMillan (12-7).

Belle Vernon 8, Indiana 4:

Belle Vernon and host Indiana traded the lead five times before the Leopards came away with an 8-4 road victory in a regular season-ending non-section game between Class AAA playoff teams.

Belle Vernon (16-4) overcame a 4-2 deficit by scoring four times in the sixth inning and twice in the seventh.

In the sixth, an error by Indiana (9-7) allowed two runs to score, tying the game, and RBI-doubles by Jacob Callaway and Justin Ivill gave Belle Vernon a 6-4 lead.

Josh Hoffmman tripled and drove in three runs for the Leopards. Eric Harkins was the winning pitcher with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
