Waynesburg gets key section win over Charleroi
CHARLEROI – Waynesburg tightened its hold on first place in section 3-AAA with a 3-0 high school girls soccer win over Charleroi Monday night. Madison Clayton scored a hat trick for the Raiders (8-0, 11-1). All three came in the second half. Calli Gibson and Kylie Sinn had assists on the second and third goals, respectively.
Goalie Emily McCarty made diving save with two minutes left in regulation to shutout the Cougars (4-4, 6-5).
• A Regan LaVigna long distance strike was the difference for Peters Township in a Section 2-AAAA match at Mt. Lebanon, as the Indians won 1-0.
LaVigna broke the scoreless tie in the 52nd minute, finding the net from 30 yards out. Ava Falcione made seven saves for the Indians (4-2, 8-3-1). Mt. Lebanon falls to 3-3, 5-5-1.
• Sabrina Bryan had a hat trick and Lexey Finney scored two goals as Canon-McMillan routed Baldwin, 9-0 in a Section 2-AAAA match. Madison Manz and Ashley Oddi each had one goal for C-M.
Goalkeeper Megan Virgin recorded the shutout for the Big Macs (6-0-1, 10-0-1). Baldwin is 0-7, 3-11-1.
• Erin James had three goals as Chartiers-Houston shut out Geibel Catholic, 4-0, in a Section 3-AA match.
Alyssa Daugherty also scored, while Kasey Scears had eight saves to record the shutout for the Bucs (5-3, 6-6). Geibel is 1-7 in section and overall.
• Bentworth used balanced scoring to top Monessen, 6-1, in a Section 2-A match.
Lindsay Davis led the undefeated Bearcats (8-0, 11-0) with two goals, but had help moving past the Greyhounds (1-7, 3-7) from Jocelyn Timlin, Paige Marshalek, Rori Schreiber and Paige Scarfo, who each scored once.
