Mapletown scores 22 late in 4th quarter to beat Monessen
Monessen (1-6, 1-9) led 12-0 in the fourth quarter before Mapletown (4-3, 5-5) started its comeback. Junior running back Dylan Rush, who ran for 164 yards on 33 carries, pulled the Maples to within 12-6 with a one-yard plunge. Rush finished the regular season with 1,796 rushing yards.
After recovering a Monessen fumble, Mapletown’s J.T. Hennessey caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Tanner Griffin on a fourth-down play to tie the score. It was the only completion by Griffin in eight pass attempts. Following a penalty on Monessen, Rush’s two-point conversion run gave Mapletown the lead at 14-12.
After another Monessen turnover, Rush scored on a 10-yard scamper with 1:44 remaining.
Monessen’s Zion Aldrich rushed for 132 yards on 15 carries and scored the game’s first touchdown on a five-yard run. Jaron Youngblood’s three-yard run gave the Greyhounds a 12-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
