High school softball: West Greene rallies twice to beat Frazier

Defending WPIAL champion West Greene rallied from a three-run deficit in the fifth inning and defeated host Frazier 8-4 Monday in a non-section game.

Frazier (2-1) forged a 3-0 lead in the third inning and maintained it into the fifth, when West Greene (5-0) tied the score. The Commodores regained the lead at 4-3 with a run in the bottom fo the fifth, but West Greene scored three times int he sixth and twice int he seventh to remain undefeated.

Madison Lampe tripled and drove in two runs, and Madison Renner also had a pair of RBI for the Pioneers. Winning pitcher Jade Renner, who struck out seven, had a pivotal RBI double in the sixth. McKenna Lampe had two hits, scored twice and stole three bases. Kaitlyn Rizor had a run-scoring double.

• Brin Hunter had a grand slam and two doubles among her four hits, driving in five runs, as McGuffey defeated Brownsville, 8-1, in a Section 3-AAA game.

Emily Vinski scattered five hits to pick up the win for the Highlanders (1-0, 2-2).

Brownsville is 0-1, 0-2.

• Savannah Adams scored on a bases loaded passed ball in the bottom of the ninth inning as Bentworth outlasted Jefferson-Morgan, 14-13, in a non-section game.

Brooke Diamond hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to give the Rockets (0-1, 1-2) a 13-10 lead before the Bearcats (2-3) scored four in the bottom of the inning to win it.

Winning pitcher Leah Lindley homered and drove in four runs for the Bearcats, who also got three doubles from Chase Watson.

Losing pitcher Caitlyn Dugan had two doubles for the Rockets.

• Abby McIntyre threw a three-hitter and had a pair of hits, including a double, as Mapletown edged Avella, 3-0, in a Section 2-A game.

Macee Chesney had two hits and two RBI, while Mikayla Perry also had two hits for the Maples (1-1, 1-2).

Avella falls to 0-1, 0-2.

• Winning pitcher Laura Walker had three hits, including a double, to lead Carmichaels to a 16-1, four-inning Section 2-A win over California.

Natalie McNett also had three hits, including a double, while Gina Ranieri doubled and Maddi Erwart had three singles for the Mikes (2-0, 3-2).

Bre Trusler took the loss for the Trojans (1-2, 1-3).

• Waynesburg did all of its damage at the plate in the first inning and then turned the game over to pitcher Emma Riccuiti and its defense as the Raiders defeated visiting Southmoreland 6-3 in the Section 3-AAA opener.

Waynesburg (1-0, 4-1) scored six times in the first inning when it had a leadoff walk followed by four consecutive singles. Rachel Eisenheimer, Tara Staley and Brooke Moore each had run-scoring hits.

Ricciuti scattered seven hits and the Raiders’ defense committed only one error. Losing pitcher Katie Trioisi-Clark and Olivia Porter each had a solo homer for Southmoreland (0-1, 1-1).

• Brittney Crawford led Canon-McMillan’s 16-hit attack with a home run, single and double as the Big Macs crushed Brashear 15-0 in a three-inning Class 6-A Section 1 game.

Every starter in the batting order for C-M (1-0) had at least one hit. Makenzie Hollie hit a home run and Ashley Buggey had three singles to back the pitching of Abi Michelucci, who threw a one-hitter and struck out five.

• Belle Vernon remained undefeated as the Leopards steamrolled Carrick 15-0 in a four-inning Section 2-AAAA game.

The Leopards improved to 3-0, 6-0) and already have a two-game edge in the win column in the section.

Pitcher Bailey Parshall was overpowering, throwing a no-hitter and striking out 11. She did not issue a walk.

The Leopards had 10 hits, all singles. Parshall drove in four runs, Alex Sokol had three RBI and Megan Christner and Mekenzie Sokol each had a pair of RBI for the Leopards.

It was the first game of the season for Carrick.

• Sarah Banks had three hits, including a homer, and drove in five runs as Burgettstown overcame six errors to beat Fort Cherry, 17-8, in a Section 3-AA game.

Jordan Baronik added a triple and four RBI to back the pitching of Tori Carnes for the Blue Devils (1-0, 1-4).

Fort Cherry falls to 0-1, 2-1.

• Kaitlyn Pavlick hit two triples and homered as South Park topped Charleroi, 12-1, in a Section 3-AAA game.

Justine Dean allowed just two hits to get the win for the Eagles (1-0, 3-0).

Ashley Smith took the loss for the Cougars (0-1, 0-2).

• Elizabeth-Forward scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to beat South Fayette, 17-7, in a Section 2-AAAA game.

Jessica Cartia hit two doubles, drove in four runs and scored four times for EF (1-0, 1-3).

Lexi Yates had three hits, including a triple, while Lauren Bennett also tripled for the Lions (1-1, 4-2), who had seven errors. Sarah Jubas, Delaney Ging, Lexi Yates and Ava Massetti all doubled for South Fayette.
