Trusler strikes out 10 in California uprising
Bri Trusler fired a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and California scored nine runs in the first inning en route to a 14-0 Section 2-A win over Avella.
Rebecca Staley had three hits, including a triple, for the Trojans (3-2, 3-4), who also got three hits from Marlee Renner and a double from Karen Watkins.
Nadia Bongorni took the loss for the Eagles (0-4, 0-5).
• Leadoff batter Olivia Porter homered and doubled, driving in four runs as Southmoreland beat McGuffey, 11-2, in a Section 3-AAA game.
Charity Henderson and winning pitcher Katie Troisi-Clark also homered for the Scotties (3-1, 4-1), who scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Ella Brookman homered for McGuffey (1-3, 2-5).
• Hannah Kalsey hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs as Waynesburg topped Charleroi, 10-4, in a Section 3-AAA game.
Brooke Moore added a triple, and Sidney Hare scored three times for the Raiders (3-1, 6-2).
Adriana Gottheld had a double and homer for the Cougars (1-3, 1-4).
• Burgettstown got an early lead and held on for a 7-6 victory over Beth-Center in a Section 3-AA game.
Lexi Stratus had a double and Hannah Abbott tripled for Burgettstown.
Beth-Center scored three times in the bottom of the seventh as Madison Mock drove in two of those with a double. Kaitlyn Muncie doubled and MacKenzie Crile tripled for the Bulldogs.
• Kaci Alderson came up a triple short of hitting for the cycle, driving in three runs, as Chartiers-Houston topped Bentworth, 10-0, in a five-inning Section 3-AA game.
Macie Kesneck was a home run short of the cycle for the Bucs (2-0, 7-0), also driving in three runs, while Lauren Lober and Kayla Elliott also doubled. Kaitlyn Dittrich allowed three hits and struck out six.
Savannah Adams had a double for the Bearcats (1-1, 3-5).
