High school baseball roundup: Wash High rallies, wins wild one at Bentworth
Washington overcame an early seven-run deficit, scoring 10 times over the final two innings to defeat host Bentworth 14-10 in a nonsection game.
Bentworth (5-5) led 8-1 in the bottom of the first inning and 9-4 in the sixth but Washington (3-5) began chipping away at the deficit. The Prexies scored four times in the sixth to close to within 9-8 before Bentworth tacked on what looked like an insurance run in the bottom of the inning.
Washington, however, scored six times in the top of the seventh.
Connor Bedillion led the Prexies at the plate with a double, triple and five RBI. He also scored three times. Isaiah Perry was 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Kevin Patterson was the winning pitcher in relief. Justin Kisner started the game on the mound for Bentworth, was relieved while holding the lead, then returned to pitch late in the game and took the loss.
• Montour scored three runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit, then tacked on seven more in the next two innings to defeat Trinity, 10-0, in a three-inning Class 5-A Section 2 game.
Winning pitcher Devin Dunn allowed just one hit and stuck out five in three innings for the Spartans (4-1, 4-2). Logan Vietmeier had a double and drove in three runs.
Tanner Hudak had the lone hit for Trinity (1-4, 2-6).
• Zach Southern had a pair of doubles and drove in scored a pair of runs as Chartiers-Houston outlasted McGuffey, 8-5, in a non-section game.
Destin Weiser added a double for the Bucs (5-3), while Ryan James pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to get the win.
Eddie Shingle, Adam Blacharczak and Matt Novak all had doubles for McGuffey (5-4).
