High school baseball roundup: Ringgold runs winning streak to 4
Winning pitcher Ryan Varley allowed one unearned run, struck out seven and drove in two runs as Ringgold extended its winning streak to four games with an 11-1 thumping of West Mifflin in a six-inning Section 3-AAAA game Saturday.
Bo Haines reached base four times and scored three runs for Ringgold, which improved to 4-2 in the section and 7-2 overall. The Rams led 6-1 after five innings and then scored five times in the sixth. Four different Rams had multiple-RBI games and Anthony Pampena had a double. Varley gave up five hits and did not walk a batter.
• Trinity scored six runs in three different innings and unleashed a 13-hit attack in a 19-2 thumping of host Brashear in a four-inning Class 5-A Section game.
Preston Miller and Zack Johnston each scored three runs for Trinity and five different players drove in two runs each. Kyle Steele, Jared Watson, Tanner Hudak and Tanner Lolley each had a double for the Hillers (2-4, 4-6).
Winning pitcher Logan Defillippo allowed one run over three innings.
• Evan Johnston hit two doubles and drove in three runs to power Belle Vernon to an 11-1 victory over Keystone Oaks in Section 3-AAAA.
Jacob Callaway tripled and drove in two runs and Jacob Hoffman had a double for Belle Vernon (5-2, 7-3). which is in second place in the section. Winning pitcher Devon Judy allowed two hits and one run (unearned) over 5 2/3 innings.
