Schaumburg defeats Things
Kagen Hopkins allowed only one run through six strong innings as Schaumburg defeated Washington 8-2 in the series finale Thursday night.
The Boomers’ lineup, and sloppy defense from the Things, made Hopkins’ night fairly easy.
Schaumburg scored the first four runs of the game – two unearned – in the third inning after David Harris’ fielder’s choice brought home three on a throwing error. Josh Gardiner then hit into another fielder’s choice to score Harris.
Despite collecting eight hits, Washington failed to turn many of those into runs.
Washington’s Kenny Peoples-Walls singled home Kyle Pollock to cut the deficit to 4-1 in the fourth inning. Mike Hill added a solo home run in the ninth when the game was out of reach. In the last three games, Peoples-Walls has 11 RBI for the Things.
Schaumburg added insurance runs in the fifth inning when Tanner Pinkston’s two-run single gave it a 6-1 lead. Sean Godfrey then followed with a two-run home run in the seventh inning, the last of the Boomers’ eight runs.
Washington starting pitcher Aaron Burns lasted 4 1/3 innings, giving up six hits, six runs and three walks.
