Basketball roundup: Barrish goes unconventional, helps lead Carmichaels past West Greene
Carmichaels’ Matt Barrish was second on his team in scoring and didn’t make a shot from the field.
Barrish’s 12 free throws accounted for all of his points as Carmichaels defeated West Greene 52-28 in a non-section game Saturday afternoon at West Greene High School.
Jacob Lowry led all scorers with 16 points for Carmichaels (0-2, 4-2).
The Mikes used a 20-point second quarter to extend their halftime lead to 28-15, ultimately too much of a deficit for West Greene (1-0, 2-4) to overcome.
Nathan Brudnock and Austin Crouse each had 14 points for the Pioneers.
North Allegheny 75, Peters Township 50: Three players for North Allegheny scored in double figures as it handed Peters Township its fourth consecutive loss, defeating the Indians 75-50 in a non-section game.
After taking a 30-20 lead into halftime, North Allegheny (0-2, 1-4) took a big step in securing its first victory of the season with a 26-point third quarter to take a commanding lead.
North Allegheny’s Cutis Aiken scored a game-high 21 points, while Zach Johnson had 13 and Ray Sandherr scored 12 for the Tigers.
Peters Township (0-3, 3-4) was led by Dax Ploskina’s 13 points, which were aided by three three-pointers.
The Indians are thankful for the holiday break after losing four consecutive games in the last eight days.
