Leechburg gets past Burgettstown
BELLEVUE – Leechburg broke open a close game after two quarters by outscoring Burgettstown 26-6 in the third quarter to knock the Blue Devils out of the WPIAL Class AA high school girls playoffs in the opening round Friday night.
Leechburg, which earned its first postseason victory in school history with the win, led 12-6 after one quarter and 26-22 at the half but came out on fire in the third quarter as Cam Davies and Brittany Robillo both hit three three-pointers each in the decisive third-quarter run.
Mikayla Lovelace scored 24 points, Davies 19 and Rubillo 15 for Leechburg (14-9), the third-place finisher in Section 2-AA.
Kacie Prasko scored 15 points and Malia Castellino had 11 for the Blue Devils (15-8), the third-place finisher in Section 1-AA.
Boys results
Imani Christian 74, Avella 45: Kenny Robinson scored 25 points as Imani Christian had three players score 20 or more in a 74-45 win over Avella in the opening round of the WPIAL Class A boys basketball playoffs at North Hills High School.
Ray Jackson added 21 points and Samule Fairly had 20 for Imani (13-6), helping the Section 3-A champions overcome a strong game from Avella’s Garrett Geresti.
Geresti scored 17 points, had 12 blocked shots and 10 rebounds for Avella (6-17), which trailed 41-21 at the half.
Shawn Willard added 11 points for the Eagles.
