W&J women win; Waynesburg swept at home by Chatham
Washington & Jefferson scored 51 first-half points en route to a 83-56 victory over Thiel in a PAC game Thursday night at Henry Memorial Center.
The win keeps W&J (5-0, 8-4) in a first-place tie in the conference with Thomas More, which won 83-62 at Westminster.
Amirah Moore led a balanced Presidents offense with 14 points on 5 of 6 shooting. She also had five assists. Danielle Parker scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. The Presidents shot 46 percent for the game and led 51-26 at halftime. W&J forged a 20-point lead only 13 minutes into the game.
Thirteen different W&J players scored and 12 had at least four points.
Jess Vormelker scored a game-high 21 points for Thiel (1-4, 4-7).
Chatham 78, Waynesburg 69: Katelyn and Megan Sieg combined for 41 points and hot-shooting Chatham surprised Waynesburg, defeating the Yellow Jackets, 78-69, in a PAC game at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Katelyn Sieg scored a game-high 25 points and Chatham (2-3, 7-4) shot 50 percent from the field as the Cougars overcame a 16-point deficit. Waynesburg led 41-25 in the second quarter. Chatham used a 12-0 run late in the first half to close to within 43-37 at intermission.
Ashley McClain scored 23 points for Chatham and Megan Sieg had 16.
The Cougars were able to overcome a big rebounding deficit. Waynesburg outrebounded Chatham 49-30. The Yellow Jackets’ Addy Kentzer grabbed 20 rebounds, including 14 on the offensive end.
Knetzer led Waynesburg in scoring with 17 points but the Yellow Jackets shot only 32 percent. Waynesburg led 68-67 after a layup by Knetzer with 5:25 remaining but it was the Yellow Jackets’ final field goal as they were outscored 11-1 down the stretch.
Katie Gehlmann scored 12 points for Waynesburg and Mackenna Drazich came off the bench to score 12 points, including 10 in the first half.
Chatham 71, Waynesburg 65, OT: Chatham used a huge advantage behind the three-point line to get its first PAC victory, 71-65 in overtime over Waynesburg at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Chatham (1-4, 5-7) made 10 three-pointers compared to Waynesburg’s 2-for-14 performance from long range.
Isaiah Brown scored a game-high 23 points for the Cougars and Nasir Alexander contributed 13. Both players made three three-point shots.
Waynesburg (2-3, 4-8), which held the lead for more than 31 minutes, was led by Marcus Wallace with 17 points. Jon Knab had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Christian Koroly contributed 10 points.
Thiel 101, Wash & Jeff 64: Hot-shooting Thiel put six players in double figures and rolled to a 101-64 victory over Washington & Jefferson at Henry Memorial Center.
Thiel (3-2, 7-3) shot a blistering 66 percent from the field and made seven of 12 three-pointers. The Tomcats scored 55 first-half points and held a 32-point lead.
Tyeik Burton paced Thiel with 18 points.
W&J (0-5, 0-12) had 12 points from Brian Graytok, 11 from Brian Lindquist and 10 from Sean Stinelli.
