Small college roundup: Cal women score 107, crush West Chester
Senior point guard Miki Glenn scored 32 points and had eight assists as California University rolled to a 107-73 victory over host West Chester in a PSAC women’s basketball game Friday night.
Cal (7-1, 13-1), ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division II, shot a torrid 58 percent from the field and made eight of 11 three-pointers. The Vulcans start fast, scoring 35 points in the first quarter and led 55-42 at halftime. Cal scored 33 more points in the third quarter to expand its lead to a commanding 88-69.
All five of the Vulcans’ starters scored double figures. Seairra Barrett had 19 points and nine rebounds, Shatara Parson had 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, Precious Martin scored 12 points and Lana Doran 10.
West Chester (4-4, 4-8) was led by Tori Smick’s 16 points. The Golden Rams committed 27 turnovers that led to 32 California points.
Men’s results
West Chester 72, California 70:
It was another PSAC game and another close loss for the California University men’s basketball team.
Tyrell Long scored 19 points and West Chester overcame a 35-pooint performance by Cal’s Cordell Smith to hold off the visiting Vulcans 72-70 Friday night. The loss came on the heels of Cal’s overtime defreat at Gannon Tuesday night. Each of the Vulcans’ last seven PSAC losses have come by six points or fewer.
The game was tied at halftime and Cal (0-8, 3-11) scored the first six points of the second half. The Vulcans, who had a 17-0 run in the first half, still led 50-44 before West Chester (4-4, 6-7) mounted its charge. Runs of 8-0 and 7-0 gave the Golden Rams a 64-55 lead and Cal could not get closer than two points the rest of the way.
Smith made 14 of 24 shots and had five three-pointers. Jay Tucker, with 10 points, was the only other player in double figures for the Vulcans.
