Everette leads Charleroi to win; WG’s Weaver scores 1,000th point
Dremar Everette scored a season-high 33 points Friday night and led Charleroi to a 68-51 victory over South Side Beaver in a Section 4-AAA game that featured wild momentum shifts.
Charleroi (4-1, 8-6), which has won three in a row, led 26-10 after one quarter but South Side Beaver used a 23-8 advantage in the third quarter to forge a 46-44 lead after three quarters.
Charleroi then went on a 20-0 run in the fourth quarter as SSB (12-4, 4-9) went more than six minutes without a basket. Everette, a 6-5 senior, led Charleroi in the fourth quarter with nine points.
Sam Miceli scored 19 points and made five three-pointers for the Cougars. Jake McDougal led SSB with 20 points and Jared Conti followed with 16.
West Greene 76, Mapletown 27: Kolton Rush scored 21 points and Craig Weaver had 16, including the 1,000th of his career, as West Greene pulled even in Section 2-A with a 76-27 victory at winless Mapletown.
Weaver, a 6-5 senior forward, scored all of his 16 points in the first half and finished the night with 1,001 career points.
Nathan Brudnock tallied 11 points for West Greene (2-2, 7-4), which led 16-1 after one quarter and 39-6 at halftime.
Austin Herpak led Mapletown with eight points. The Maples are 0-4, 0-13.
Washington 82, Beth-Center 23: Matt Popeck scored 28 points and powered Washington its fifth consecutive victory, an 82-23 thumping of Beth-Center in Section 4-AAA.
Wash High (6-0, 8-3) remained in first place in the section and little trouble doing so as the Little Prexies led 26-5 after one quarter and 59-7 at halftime.
Ten different Wash High players scored. Following Popeck in the scoring column were Jacob Swartz with 15 points and Isaiah Robinson with 12.
J.J. Green, with seven points, was the leading scorer for Beth-Center (0-5, 4-7).
Trinity 73, West Mifflin 45: Twelve different Hillers scored as Trinity downed West Mifflin, 73-45, in a Class 5-A Section 1 game.
Joey Koroly scored 17, Jaden Nelson 16 and Dylan Kern 12 for the Hillers (3-2, 6-6), who led 31-18 at the half.
Josh Brown scored 16 points and Darnell Carey had 15 for West Mifflin (1-4, 2-10).
California 64, Bentworth 50: Kass Taylor led four scorers in double digits with 27 points as the Trojans downed Bentworth, 64-50, in Section 2-AA play.
Johnny DeFranco added 12 points and Jaycee Conaway and Dylan Hammitt had 10 each for California (3-3, 10-3). Hammitt also had 10 rebounds.
Steven Harner scored 18 points and Justin Vilce had 10 for Bentworth (2-4, 6-6).
Baldwin 61, Canon-McMillan 58: Nick Fiumara scored seven of Baldwin’s nine points on the fourth quarter to help the Highlanders hold off Canon-McMillan, 61-58, in a Class 6-A Section 2 game.
Canon-McMillan trailed 52-46 entering the fourth quarter and cut the lead to 52-51, but Fiumara, who scored 18 points, helped Baldwin (4-1, 10-4) hold on.
Anthony Reid added 13 points, Carlos Ramirez 12 and Mike Goga 11 for Baldwin.
Britton Beachy scored 16 points and Elliott Walker had 15 for the Big Macs (2-2, 9-4).
Laurel Highlands 78, Ringgold 58: Bryce Laskey’s 24 points helped Laurel Highlands win a key Class 5-A Section 1 game against Ringgold, 78-58.
William Deichert added 17 points and Hudson Novak and Elijah Guynn added 13 each for LH (3-2, 9-4).
Anthony Pampina led Ringgold (2-3, 7-7) with 22 points, while Chris Pecon added 10 in the losing effort.
Monessen 97, Geibel Catholic 29: Jaden Altomore score 21 points in the first quarter as Monessen jumped out to a 38-8 lead after eight minutes en route to a 97-29 Section 2-A win over Geibel Catholic.
Altomore finished with 32 points as the Greyhounds also got 16 out of Justice Rice, 14 out of Vaughn Taylor and 13 from Lyndon Henderson to improve to 4-0 in section and 7-4 overall.
Enzo Fetsko scored 11 points to lead Geibel (1-3, 4-9).
Frazier 70, Carmichaels 63: Carmichaels scored 47 second-half points but the Mikes’ furious second-half comeback fell short as they lost 70-63 at Frazier in Section 2-AA.
Frazier (3-2, 4-9), which had five players score in double figures, led 33-16 at halftime and by as many as 27 points during the game. Carmichaels (0-5, 5-7) refused to quit and mounted a big comeback, pulling to within 49-40 after three quarters. The Mikes were able to close to within eight points before Frazier pushed the lead back to double digits early in the fourth quarter.
Liam Shea scored a game-high 29 points for Carmichaels. Matt Barrish contributed 11 points.
Justin Novak and John Celaschi led Frazier’s balanced attack, each scoring 14 points.
Clairton 73, Avella 32: Maurice Reeves scored 23 points – all in the first three quarters – and led Clairton to a 73-32 victory over visiting Avella in Section 2-A.
The win was the fifth in a row for Clairton, which is 4-0 in section and 8-3 overall.
Shawn Willard led Avella (1-3, 3-9) with eight points.
South Park 62, Waynesburg 52: Joey Torris led three South Park players in double figures with 15 points and South Park evened its Section 3-AAAA record with a 62-52 victory over visiting Waynesburg.
South park improved to 3-3 in section and 5-8 overall.
Waynesburg (0-6, 1-11) received a game-high 23 points from Darton McIntire. All of his points came after the first quarter. Jimmy Straight also hit double figures, scoring 11 points.
Girls results
OLSH 49, Fort Cherry 33: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart rode a big first quarter to a 49-33 victory over host Fort Cherry in a Section 1-AA game.
OLSH (5-1, 9-4), remained a game behind section-leading Chartiers-Houston. The Chargers led 15-4 after one quarter.
Shannon Relihan paced Fort Cherry with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Rangers are 2-4 in section and 5-6 overall.
