Boys basketball: Another come-from-behind win for Wash High
Matt Popeck scored a game-high 30 points and led a second-half comeback by Washington and the Prexies rallied for a 57-41 victory Monday night in a battle of boys basketball section leaders on the Wildcats’ home court.
East Allegheny (8-4), which is in a three-way tie for first place in Section 3-AAA, led 9-8 after one quarter and held Washington (10-3) to only three points in the second quarter. The Wildcats led 19-11 at halftime.
Popeck, however, sparked Section 4-AAA-leading Wash High in the second half, scoring 23 points after halftime. He helped the Prexies pull into a 32-32 tie after three quarters. Wash High then dominated the final eight minutes, outscoring East Allegheny 25-9 as the Prexies went on to their seventh consecutive victory.
Jacob Swartz also was in double figures for Wash High with 13 points.
Jaki Rock led East Allegheny with 14 points and Owen Clayman had 12.
