Riske wins again in Australian Open
McMurray native Alison Riske advanced to the third round of the Australian Open for the second time in four years by upsetting 20th seeded Shuai Zhang of China, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-1, Wednesday in Melbourne.
The marathon match lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes. The first set went 71 minutes and included a tiebreaker won by Riske, 7-6.
Riske led 3-1 and 5-3 in the first set before Zhang rallied to force the tiebreaker. Riske was in trouble early in the tiebreaker, falling behind 4-2, but she saved three set points and battled back to win the first set.
Zhang pulled even, winning the final two games of the second set. Riske, however, dominated the third set and advanced to the third round, where she will play either 10th-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain or unseeded Sorana Cirstea of Romania.
