Canon-Mac’s Beachy beats buzzer, Bethel Park

Britton Beachy’s made a buzzer-beating shot off a lob pass on an inbounds play to give Canon-McMillan a 64-63 victory over visiting Bethel Park in a Class 6-A Section 2 game Tuesday night.

Canon-McMillan (6-3, 14-5) avoided the upset bid by Bethel Park (0-9, 4-14) by overcoming a six-point deficit in the final minute of overtime. The Big Macs forced two turnovers and used a layup by Jason Fowlkes, who finished with 17 points, to close to within one point with 24 seconds remaining.

After forcing another turnovers, C-M missed a potential game-winning shot but the rebounded went out of bounds under the basket and was awarded to the Big Macs. Beachy took a lob pass in the lane just inside the foul line and put in a shot that rattled through the basket as time expired.

Beachy scored a team-high 21 points.

Bethel Park’s Ryan Meis also scored 21 points.

Chartiers-Houston 76, Bentworth 43: It took eight minutes, but Section 2-AA leader Chartiers-Houston got it offense going and pulled away for a 76-43 victory over visiting Bentworth.

After a first quarter that ended tied 13-13, Chartiers-Houston scored at least 20 points in each of the other three quarters.

Cam Hanley led the way for C-H (9-0, 14-4) with a game-high 20 points to go with 12 rebounds and six assists. He was followed in double figures by A.J. Myers with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Andrew Clark had 11 points, Zach Southern 10 points and Spencer Terling grabbed 12 rebounds.

Bentworth (4-6, 8-10) was led by Ray Logan’s 16 points. The Bearcats’ loss clinched a WPIAL playoff berth for California (6-3, 14-3).

McGuffey 73, Waynesburg 46: It was a night to remember for Trent Belleville and freshman C.J. Cole as they led McGuffey to a 73-46 win over Waynesburg in a Section 3-AAAA game.

Belleville recorded an impressive double-double performance with a team-high 25 points while collecting 23 rebounds.

Cole scored the most in his young high-school career with 17 points as McGuffey (9-2, 16-3) remained at the top of the section by outscoring the Indians 42-19 in the second half.

Waynesburg (0-11, 1-18) was led by a game-high 27 points from Darton McIntire, who also had success from deep with four three-point field goals.

Fort Cherry 88, Frazier 58: Fort Cherry’s Ryhan Culberson, Devon Brown and Nate Higham combined for 72 points as the Rangers defeated Frazier 88-58 in a Section 2-AA matchup.

After taking an 18-15 lead after the first eight minutes, Fort Cherry exploded with a 24-point second quarter for a 42-23 halftime advantage.

The Rangers continued their offensive efficiency in the second half with another 46 points, including a successful night from the free-throw line, where they were 16 of 22.

Leading the big three from Fort Cherry (8-2, 13-5) was Culberson with 26 points. Brown scored 25 and Higham finished with 21 points.

Frazier (3-5, 4-15) was led by a game-high 19 points from John Celaschi. Joshua Cox also scored 13 points for the Commodores.

Monessen 106, Mapletown 22: Five players for Monessen scored in double figures as it routed Mapletown 106-22 in Section 2-A.

Taking a 63-11 lead into halftime, the Greyhounds carried the momentum into the third quarter by not allowing Mapletown to make a field goal while outscoring the Maples 29-1.

Monessen (8-0, 11-6) was led by Jaden Altomore’s 16-point performance. Other Greyhounds to record double-digit points were Jaron Youngblood with 15 points, Justice Rice and Elijahwa Payne, who each had 14, and 13 points from Vaughn Taylor.

Mapletown (0-8, 0-18) was paced by six points from Austin Herpak.

Burgettstown 44, Beth-Center 26: Burgettstown used a 20-point scoring edge in the second and third quarters to defeat Beth-Center 44-26 in Section 4-AAA game.

The Blue Devils extended a one-point lead after the first quarter to a 37-16 advantage heading into the final eight minutes.

Jarred John led Burgettstown (4-5, 9-9) with 14 points. Garrett Dhans also chipped in an eight-point performance.

Beth-Center (0-10, 5-12) was paced by eight points from both J.J. Green and Brennan Stanley.

Avella 58, Geibel Catholic 42: Garrett Geresti scored 24 points and hauled in 21 rebounds as Avella defeated Section 2-A opponent Geibel Catholic, 58-42.

Geresti was joined in double-digits by teammate Shawn Willard, who had 16 points and collected 14 rebounds.

The balanced offense for Avella (3-5, 5-13) was facilitated by Kevin Painter’s six points and eight assists.

Geibel (2-6, 5-13) was led by 20 points from Cole Kendall and Enzo Fetsko’s 13 points.

Clairton 68, West Greene 43: Clairton used an impressive second half to defeat Section 2-A visitor West Greene, 68-44.

After being deadlocked at 24-24 at halftime, Clairton pushed its up-tempo pace by outscoring the Pioneers 44-20 in the final sixteen minutes.

Clairton (7-1, 13-4) was led by Dom Soloman’s 19 points.

Pacing West Greene (4-4, 11-6) was paced by 15 points from Kolton Rush. Craig Weaver followed with 12 points and Nathan Brudnock had 11.

Albert Gallatin 79, Ringgold 72: Tavion Mozie scored a game-high 29 points as Albert Gallatin served a heartbreaking loss to Ringgold, 79-72, in a Section Class 5-A Section 1 matchup.

With the loss, Ringgold (9-10, 4-5) fell out of a playoff spot in the section.

Ringgold was led by 31 points from Jake Meyer. Dakota Browning also had 21 points for the Rams.
