The PIAA released sites and times for first-round baseball and softball playoff games that will be played Monday.

Six local teams – five softball and one baseball – qualified but no first-round games will be played in Washington County.

The lone baseball team to qualify was Class AA WPIAL champion California (20-2) after it defeated Freedom, 3-1, in 10 innings, at Wild Things Park Tuesday. The Trojans will play District 10 runner-up Saegertown (15-7) at 3:30 p.m. at Latrobe High School.

WPIAL Class AAAA softball champion Belle Vernon (19-1), which defeated Yough at California University’s Lilley Field Thursday, will play District 9 Champion Punxsutawney (20-0) at 3 p.m. at Hampton.

Chartiers-Houston (16-4), the No. 4 seed in Class AA, travels to Clarion-Limestone to take on District 9 champion Moniteau (21-0).

The most populated bracket for local teams is Class A softball, where West Greene, Monessen and Carmichaels each qualified for the state tournament.

WPIAl champion West Greene (22-1), which lost in last year’s title game, will begin its run for another state championship appearance when it plays Shanksville-Stoneybrook (17-5) at 3 p.m. at North Allegheny.

WPIAL runner-up Monessen (16-6) will travel to Slippery Rock University for a 4 p.m. matchup with District 10 champion Commodore Perry (13-3).

Carmichaels (17-6) has a three-hour trip north to play District 9 champion DuBois Central Catholic (21-1) at Brockway High School. That game will start at 1 p.m. DuBois Central Catholic lost to West Greene in the state semifinals last season.

The quarterfinals will be played Thursday.
