Monessen ousted after Shrock treatment

ERIE – Brittany Shrock smacked a grand slam and drove in five runs, and Brooke Shrock hit a tiebreaking single in the bottom of the sixth inning as Commodore Perry pulled away late to beat Monessen 7-2 Tuesday in the first round of the PIAA Class A softball playoffs at Penn State Behrend.
Commodore Perry (14-3), the District 10 champion, took a 3-2 in the sixth inning on Brooke Shrock’s hit. Brittany Shrock’s grand slam capped the big inning that was played with rain falling and darkness becoming an issue.
The game was delayed because of rain for 65 minutes in the fifth inning.
After the rain delay, Commodore Perry took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Sarah Mary bounced into a fielder’s choice to score the game’s first run and Brittany Shrock’s RBI single to right field made it 2-0.
Monessen (16-7) tied the score in the sixth, pushing across two runs without the benefit of a hit. Commodore Perry committed two errors in the inning.
