Washington drops series opener to River City, 11-7

O’FALLON, Mo. – Jason Merjano hit a three-run homer, capping River City’s four-run seventh inning, as the Rascals defeated the Wild Things 11-7 Tuesday night at CarShield Field.
Washington led 5-0 in the second inning and 7-6 in the fifth but River City took the lead for good at 8-7 in the seventh on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Johnny Morales. Merjano, the Rascals’ leadoff hitter, followed with his home run off Washington reliever Matt Sabel.
River City added two runs in the eighth.
Bralin Jackson hit a grand slam in Washington’s five-run second inning. Kenny Peoples-Walls had a pair of RBI.
Davis Adkins (1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief of starter Chase Cunningham.
