AVON, Ohio – A big second inning propelled Washington to a 5-2 win at Lake Erie Thursday night.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first on a solo home run by Jordan Dean, the Wild Things responded with five runs.

Mike Hill doubled in Hector Roa, who tripled to start the inning, to tie the game. Kyle Reese then hit a one-out RBI single to score Hill. After a Trevin Sonnier single, Rashad Brown doubled to score Reese and Sonnier. Brown then stole third and scored on a Bralin Jackson groundout to increase Washington’s lead to 5-1.

Outside of a third-inning RBI single from Lake Erie’s Parker Norris, neither team scored the rest of the game.

Crushers starter Steve Hagen (3-3) took the loss, giving up five runs over five innings.

For the Things, reliever-turned-starter Brian O’Keefe (1-2) earned the win, as the southpaw struck out a career-high nine batters over seven innings. Closer Zach Strecker tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his seventh save.
