High school softball roundup: Christner’s 5 hits spark Belle Vernon

Megan Christner had five hits, all singles, to lead Belle Vernon past South Fayette, 6-1, Tuesday in a Section 2-AAAA game.

The Leopards tallied 13 hits, enough support for starting pitcher Bailey Parshall, who gave up only one run while striking out 12.

Belle Vernon (10-1, 14-1) got two hits from Lexi Church and Alex Sokol, including a triple.

The lone run for South Fayette (5-5, 9-6) came on a double by Lexi Yates in the seventh inning.

• Madison Renner threw a no-hitter and West Greene scored 10 runs in the second inning en route to a 15-0 victory over Mapletown in a four-inning Section 2-A game.

Renner won her fifth game of the season, striking out three and walking four.

McKenna Lampe was 2-for-3 with a double, four stolen bases and three runs to lead the offense for West Greene (10-0, 16-1). Madison Lampe also was 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs and four RBI. Renner had three hits, including a two-run homer, and four RBI. Kaitlyn Rizor had a double and triple.

Mapletown is 4-7 in section and 5-11 overall.

• Taylor Boyd hit a home run in the top of the sixth inning as Charleroi defeated Waynesburg 3-2 in Section 3-AAA.

Charleroi (2-7, 2-10) scattered seven hits, none more meaningful than Boyd’s home run, which gave starting pitcher Ashley Smith enough run support.

• Kayla and Kaci Alderson combined for six hits as Chartiers-Houston defeated Burgettstown, 15-0, in a three-inning Section 3-AA game.

The Bucs scored five runs in the first inning followed by another nine in the second to build their lead early.

Kayla Alderson went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple. Kaci Alderson went 3-for-3 with a double, while teammate Jessica Ford hit a grand slam for C-H (6-2, 12-3).

Picking up the only hit for Burgettstown (3-6, 3-12) was Jordan Baronick.

• Jefferson-Morgan scored 10 runs in the first inning to build up a sizeable lead as it defeated Avella, 16-1, in five innings in Section 2-A.

Winning pitcher Caitlyn Dugan only allowed one hit throughout her five innings for J-M (3-6, 4-8). Autumn Gustovich doubled for the Rockets.

• Ringgold clinched a playoff berth from Class 5-A Section 2 with a 6-5 victory over first-place Conellsville. Peters Township boosted its playoffs chances with a 14-2 win in six innings over Upper St. Clair in Class 6-A Section 1. Bentworth lost at Section 3-AA leader Frazier, 12-10. No game details were made available to the Observer-Reporter.
