College baseball: W&J scores 3 in 8th to beat Frostburg State
Washington & Jefferson, ranked No. 17 in NCAA Division III, scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Frostburg State ace Greg Schneider to beat the Bobcats 6-3 Wednesday in a nonconference game.
W&J (28-8) scored two of the runs in the eighth on wild pitches, around a sacrifice fly by Nick Gatins that scored Frank Fortunato, who went 2-for-4.
Frostburg State (17-19) had tied the game by scoring three runs in the top of the eighth.
Ryan Sciullo tripled and Nick Vento doubled for W&J. Derek Helbing, the sixth Presidents pitcher, was the winner. Starter Santino Platt allowed one hit over four shutout innings.
