Grove City forged an 11-run lead, then had to fight off a late comeback by Waynesburg to edge the visiting Yellow Jackets, 14-12, Monday and clinch a berth in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference tournament.

The loss ends the season for Waynesburg (12-12, 18-21). A win by the Yellow Jackets would have sent them to the four-team conference tournament. Grove City moves on at 14-10, 17-17.

Andy Fritz had a home run, double and five RBI to stake Grove City to the big lead. Waynesburg battled back as Josh Hausler, Tyler Reis and Addis Crouch each drove in three runs. The Yellow Jackets scored six runs in the fifth and four in the seventh to close to within 13-12. A wild pitch scored a Grove City run in the bottom of the seventh and gave the Wolverines the two-run cushion, which they protected.

Reis hit a home run, and Hausler and Ben Miller each doubled for Waynesburg.
