High school softball roundup: Bentworth’s Lindley throws 1-hitter

Leah Lindley pitched a one-hit shutout as Bentworth blanked California, 8-0, Monday in a nonsection game.

Lindley struck out 10 batters and did not issue a walk. California (5-9) had only two baserunners.

Morgan Hawley hit a double and drove in two runs for the Bearcats (9-9), who scored four runs in the first inning. Savannah Adams also doubled for Bentworth, which took advantage of six California errors.

• Annalia Paoli’s two-run walkoff home run with no outs in the eighth inning gave Albert Gallatin a 6-4 victory over Waynesburg in a nonsection game.

Waynesburg (8-8) had tied the score at 4-4 but AG (15-3) won when Ally Bezjak reached on an error to start the eighth Paoli, who drove in three runs, followed with her home run.

Paige Rutan had a solo homer and Lexi Fuqua doubled for Waynesburg.

• Fort Cherry scored seven runs in the fourth inning and defeated Avella 13-6 in a nonsection game.

Of the 24 hits in the game, a double by Avella’s Amy Horr was the only one that went for extra bases.

Fort Cherry improves its record to 4-11. Avella ends the season at 1-14.

• Natalie Adams went 3-for-4, including two doubles, and drove in five runs as Ringgold defeated Uniontown 12-8 in a nonsection game.

Johnna Mocniak hit a home run during a seven-run second inning by Ringgold (10-7). Lauren Gohacki had three hits for the Rams and Jillian Scherer was the winning pitcher.

• Shelbee McCann hit two solo home runs and Carmichaels outslugged host McGuffey 16-11 in a nonsection game.

The game featured 35 hits, five home runs and 13 extra-base hits.

Carmichaels (14-5) hit four of the home runs. Winning pitcher Kylie Sinn and Laura Walker each smacked a three-run homer. Natalie McNett had two doubles, Walker had one double, as did Megan Walker and Morgan Faddis. Laura Walker led the Mikes’ 21-hit attack with four RBI.

Megan Gray hit a home run for McGuffey (6-11). Ella Brookman, Gabby Pettit and Ellie Serna each had a double.

The Highlanders led 6-2 after two innings but Carmichaels scored nine times over the next two innings to forge an 11-6 lead.
