Williams strikes out 10 but Wild Things doubled up

AVON, Ohio – Two solo home runs were not enough for the Wild Things in their game Tuesday morning against the Lake Erie Crushers.
Lake Erie also hit a pair of home runs, including a two-run shot by Jordan Dean in the fifth inning, and the Crushers defeated the Wild Things 4-2 at Sprenger Healthcare Stadium.
Dean’s two-run shot gave Lake Erie a 4-1 lead and came off Washington starting pitcher Hunter Williams (0-1). Williams, who played last season at the University of North Carolina, gave up seven hits and all four runs. He walked three and struck out 10 in his Frontier League debut.
Washington left fielder Bralin Jackson tied the score at 1-1 in the fourth inning with a solo home run, the first of the season for the Wild Things. Lake Erie’s Connor Oliver led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run to regain the lead for the Crushers.
Washington closed to within 4-2 on a solo homer down the right-field line by first baseman Kane Sweeney in the seventh inning. The Wild Things had runners on first and third with one out in the eighth but two strikeouts ended the threat.
Connor Reed (1-0) pitched seven innings for the win. Chandler Jagodzinski pitched the ninth for his second save.
Washington’s Jordan Schwartz pitched three shutout innings of relief, striking out four.
